For four seasons, Jamie Campbell Bower’s job as Vecna was to make Stranger Things fans jump at every creak in the house. This weekend at Comic-Con, his job was making them dance.

The actor stepped behind the DJ booth for a surprise DJ set at IGN‘s party at the Hard Rock Hotel, an invite-only affair. Guests expecting themed cocktails and photo ops instead got a full-blown DJ set from the Upside Down’s resident nightmare fuel, who dropped dubstep, drum & bass and French house music, including spins of Daft Punk’s ‘Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger’ and Justice’s ‘Genesis.’

Bower, whose work as the telekinetic villain Vecna turned him into a household name, cut his teeth as a musician long before Stranger Things. He worked as a DJ as a teen in London before fronting the punk band Counterfeit for years, and these days he releases post-hardcore music under the solo project BloodMagic.

In a post-performance interview, Bower, 37, said he hadn’t DJed since he was 18. When asked about his “craziest” DJ experience, he recalling meeting and hanging out with Skrillex.

“I haven’t DJed since I was like 18, when I was really young,” he said after the performance. “I used to work around in the London indie scene back in the day and there was a club night called ‘Frog’ at Astoria 2, or Mean Fiddler, which now no longer exists in London. We used to just DJ on Saturday night. It would open at 11 and close at like 2, I think it was, and it was always a really fun experience. It’s just a cool thing to share music with people.”

The DJ set capped off a wild day for Bower, who earlier stormed Hall H with news that he is joining Season 3 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power as a major new cast member. At one point, he added, he saw Daniel Weyman, who plays Gandalf The Grey in Prime Video’s hit series, vibing in the crowd.
