Porter Robinson and Ninajirachi‘s new collaboration, ‘WannaCry,’ is a testament to the incredible things that can happen when you put together two of the most boundary-pushing artists in electronic music.

The track’s roots can be traced to a cryptic countdown posted April 10th to Robinson’s website, pointing to a surprise appearance at Ninajirachi’s impending Coachella set. Just a few hours later, attendees were treated not only to that breakthrough performance, but also the public debut of ‘WannaCry’ after the beloved Worlds producer crashed her set.

The duo has since teased the track out at high-profile performances across the globe, including the nation’s largest EDM festival, EDC Las Vegas, and a full-length b2b set at Sydney’s Chinese Laundry club, which also featured an unreleased remix from experimental bass music icon G Jones.

Riding the momentum of Ninajirachi’s stunning debut album I Love My Computer, ‘WannaCry’ masterfully combines the genre-defying aspects of the EDM.com Class of 2026 star’s sound with Robinson’s own odyssey into the world of hyperpop. Both artists feature their vocals on the track, shrouded in the format-shifting and pitch-bending sensibilities emblematic of both of their catalogs.

After a brief intro of vocal-chopping that basically feels like home to fans at this point, the track wastes no time and immediately launches into a distorted, synth-soaked drop with a melody that makes it impossible to keep both feet on the ground.

In direct contrast with the uplifting, euphoric instrumentals, the lyrics of ‘WannaCry’ explore the theme of seduction and love creeping into possession. Nina alludes to an effort to intrude “through every undefended door” and push the limits by leaving her mark wherever she goes, much like the track’s namesake, the notorious malware that paralyzed hospitals and corporations across the globe back in 2017. Admitting her luck is starting to run out, she declares, “I’ve got a charm, I wanna put it on your heart / I wanna cry, I wanna multiply more times,” signaling a desire not just to enchant, but to replicate this mark on another to an all-consuming degree.

Robinson echoes that sentiment by reflecting on his own pattern of destructive behavior, replying with, “I know what you are / I’ve already been there.” When their voices entwine, however, the track’s perspective deliberately blurs, showcasing an attempt to sever their entanglement in a cycle of absorption that neither can seem to escape.
