KPop Demon Hunters star Ejae has recalled how Leonardo DiCaprio caused her to make errors during a performance at the BAFTAs.

The star provides the singing voice of Rumi in the Netflix global phenomenon, and performed alongside Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami at the awards in February. Despite the prestigious event, the artist remembers a particular incident that threw her off her game.

“The BAFTAs haunt me,” she told The Times. “I made mistakes. I cracked a little bit on the high notes. Leonardo DiCaprio was [in the audience] right in front of me and he was not smiling.”

She pointed to a high note she had to perform during the song ‘Born To Be’ as the moment the Oscar winner affected her. “That’s what put me off,” she recalled. “He made me so nervous. It was already so nerve-racking to be in front of all these celebrities, and then I look up and lock eyes with Leonardo DiCaprio? Come on.”

The animated film has become Netflix’s most watched film of all time, with several spin offs in development including a sequel and a global live tour. Elsewhere in her interview, Ejae confessed to being overwhelmed by the success. “It’s still crazy to me,” she said. “I was a nobody and suddenly I’m a something.”

Recently, it was announced that a new book, The Art Of KPop Demon Hunters, would offer a deep dive into the production design, visual concepts, and cultural inspirations behind the movie. The book, released in September, is offered in a standard edition and a platinum edition that features holographic page edges that evoke the Honmoon, the veil that HUNTR/X protect in the movie.

This month, KPop Demon Hunters singer Audrey Nuna released the song ‘superHuman’, described as capturing a “feeling of redemption, of validation, of the tides finally turning.” It is the singer-songrwriter’s first single in two years.
