10 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so many songs, so little time. U2 & MARTIN GARRIX – “FIREFLIES”

“We go back a long way with Martin, and there’s always a sense of adventure whenever we get together,” says The Edge of U2’s friendship with EDM artist Martin Garrix and this new collaboration. “Playing ‘Fireflies’ for the first time at Tomorrowland, in front of one of the most passionate festival crowds anywhere, was such a rush… in fact I might have enjoyed it a bit too much. It reminded me of why I love playing outdoors. I like it better when there’s no ceiling,”

RAKIM – “A DIFFERENT KIND”

Rakim, Kurupt and Masta Killa are releasing a collaborative album, The Godbody, due out September 18, and from it, Rakim’s shared his first self-produced solo track in 15 years, “A Different Kind.”

JOHNNY MARR – “OPHELIA”

“The character of Ophelia is confounding but there’s a real nobility and strength which reminds me of someone in my life,” says Johnny Marr of his new solo single. “So the name just stuck and sounded like a song. I thought about the character and I saw quite a few similarities with the Ophelia. As a songwriter, sometimes these things happen where it just sings really well over the track and you go with it. FLO MILLI – “HOT AS A BIC”

Flo Milli will release her fourth LP, FloState, via Jive Records this year. Details on that are still to be announced, but she’s given us a preview with “Hot as a Bic,” which was produced by Pooh Beatz.

KATRINA FORD (CELEBRATION) – “TRANSCENDING”

Katrina Ford of Celebration is back with her first new single in two years. She says, “Pollyanna child of the universe whose cosmic parents are at war. As above, so below. If by spell or affirmation the declaration of ‘YES’ is a welcome relief in a world of No. Beyond and despite the division, injustices, poverty, pollution, and disharmony, we are heading towards not destruction but transmutation. INSPECTAH DECK – “DAY IN THE LIFE”

Wu-Tang Clan rapper Inspectah Deck announced a new solo album, Dragon’s Breath, due out August 7. It features collaborations with Raekwon, Cappadonna, Czarface, Ransom, Skyzoo, Che Noir, and KXNG Crooked, and the first single is “Day In The Life.”

JOY OLADOKUN – “KIND”

Singer-songwriter Joy Oladokun announced a new album, Hope is a Heavy Thing, due out September 25 via Concord. She calls it “a collection of 12 songs that I wrote to help myself find my light again after burning out,” and the new single is “Kind.”

JESSE DRAXLER – “A PRECAMBRIAN WILL” (FT. ZOLA JESUS)

Jesse Draxler’s new album Tongue of Angels is out on August 14 via Federal Prisoner and his RIP ID platform, and the new single is a collaboration with Zola Jesus, the haunting, atmospheric “A Precambrian Will.”

CHAD HUGO – “JUMPUPW!NYA” (FT. TIERRA WHACK & LEIKELI47)

Neptunes co-founder Chad Hugo released his first-ever solo single, “Jumpupw!nya,” which features Tierra Whack and Leikeli47. “For those that don’t know, I’m from Brooklyn by way of Virginia; so when Chad called, I leapt at the opportunity to collaborate,” Leikeli says. “Love to the amazing Tierra Whack. I’m just happy to play my part.”
